Adobe Captivate - Slide Audio Three Ways

In this video tutorial, I show you the three ways you can import your slide audio for your Adobe Captivate eLearning project. 

The first method is one to one with the slide. For example, your voice talent may provide you with an audio recording for each of your slides. Of course, this is ideal as you can import one file per slide easily enough. 

Sometimes you may have forgotten to mention to the voice talent that one recording per slide would be ideal and they provide you with a single audio recording for the entire project. Not to worry, in this case, there is an option where you can mark the narration by the slides as you're importing and therefore quickly get the right narration for each slide. 

The third option allows you to maintain the duration of each slide and merely span the audio across multiple slides. This is probably more ideal when you have a certain number of slides and you want the audio to span across them somewhat equally. As you will learn though, the final slide will get whatever is left, and it may not be 100% equal with all the other slides.

Adobe Captivate - Get Rid of Blank Project Startup

Since the availability of Adobe Captivate (2017 release) Update 1, users have noticed that the autoplay play feature is no longer functioning in desktop browsers. This is actually more to do with changes in the browsers than it is with Adobe Captivate. The reason autoplay has been disabled is to prevent media from playing automatically in the browser. While this is good news when you are surfing the net and bombarded with multimedia advertising, it makes eLearning grind to halt before it even gets started. While I can't solve this problem for you, I can show you how you can replace the blank white slide and boring play button with something more exciting and with something that looks more by design than what's there now.

The Future of Adobe Captivate

One of the most popular questions my viewers on YouTube ask me is what's going to be in the next version of Adobe Captivate? Of course, I don't know anything more than anyone else. However, one of the reasons that I enjoy attending the Adobe eLearning live events is the sneak peeks. This week did not disappoint. Here is what we learned.

Interactive video will be a big part of a future version of Adobe Captivate. You will be able to import a video from a file on your computer or from a video streaming service. From there you select various time stamps where you present questions to your learners. Depending on their input, the video can either continue playing from that point or jump back to another location if remediation is required.

360° virtual interactions will also be coming to Adobe Captivate. Imagine being able to present objects or locations to your learners that would be impossible to take them to under normal circumstances. For example, many workplaces may be too hazardous to conduct training sessions in, or perhaps it's too costly to bring learners on a tour of such facilities. With Adobe Captivate you will be able to capture 360° photos and incorporate them into your eLearning. You will be able to add hotspots where learners can click and learn more about specific areas within that location. At the end of the tour, you can add quizzes to test the knowledge of your learners before they move on.

Last but not least we will see some significant enhancements to Adobe Captivate Prime, Adobe's cloud-based learning management system that works with the Captivate authoring tool. In addition to the regular functions of an LMS, Prime will allow users to share outside content with their colleagues. Also, users will be able to create content to share with each other. Algorithms will determine if further content curation is required and can assign that curation to subject matter experts for review.  

As with all the Adobe sneak peeks it's important to note that these features are in development and there is no guarantee they will end up in the next release of Adobe Captivate or Captivate Prime. It is interesting to learn about what the future might include and also encouraging to know that Adobe is working hard to make these products even better for us than they already are.

Adobe Captivate - Final Quiz Question Remediation

In this video tutorial, I show you how you can set up remediation for your final quiz questions. Remediation in eLearning is when a learner has exhausted their attempts they will be returned to the portion of the training where this knowledge of skill was originally taught. Once they've gained the knowledge they will have the opportunity to return to that spot in the quiz, make another attempt, and hopefully be successful.
